Mr. Bob Krist, Professional Photographer (Bob Krist Photography) Visit This Photographer's Web Site: http://www.bobkrist.com Bob Krist is a freelance photographer who works regularly on assignment for magazines such as National Geographic Traveler, Smithsonian, Islands, and the German magazine GEO Saison. These assignments have taken him to all seven continents and his photographs have won awards in the Pictures of the Year, Communication Arts, and World Press Photo competitions. During his work, he has been stranded on a glacier in Iceland, nearly run down by charging bulls in southern India, and knighted with a cutlass during a Trinidad voodoo ceremony. He has won the title of “Travel Photographer of the Year ” from the Society of American Travel Writers and his work was featured on the cover and in a 10-page portfolio in a recent issue of the prestigious publication, Communication Arts. In 2000, he was honored at the Eisenstadt Awards for Magazine Photography in the Travel category.
His book Spirit of Place: The Art of The Traveling Photographer (Amphoto Books, NY) was hailed by American Photographer magazine as “the best book about travel photography we’ve ever read.” In Tuscany (Broadway Books, NY), which spent a month on the New York Times bestseller list, is a collaboration with author Frances Mayes and features 270 pages of Bob’s photographs of the region. He also photographed the coffeetable books Caribbean and Portrait of the Caribbean (Graphic Arts Center Publishing) , and A Photo Tour of New York (PhotoSecrets Publishing, San Diego), and Impressions of Bucks County (Old Mill Productions, New Hope PA) as well as the how-to book Secrets of Lighting on Location (Amphoto Books, NY), LowCountry: Charleston to Savannah (Graphic Arts Center Publishing), and Down The Shore: A Photo Tour of the Jersey Coast (Old Mill Productions).
An accomplished writer as well as a photographer, he served for seven years as contributing editor and photography columnist at Travel & Leisure magazine. Currently, Bob is a contributing editor at both National Geographic Traveler and Outdoor Photographer, where he writes a travel photography column. He lectures at National Geographic headquarters in Washington DC as part of the Society’s ongoing “Masters of Photography” series.
A former professional actor, Bob hosts the Nikon School series of instructional videos as well as Nature’s Best Photography, a 13-part series for National Wildlife Productions on the Outdoor Life Network and Photography Close Up, one of Cablevision’s Mag Rack series.
