Mr. Thomas Schauer

“I have always felt that my photography helps people focus on things that they ordinarily would have missed.”

Thomas Schauer was born in 1969 in the small styrian town of Grambach, Austria. After embracing photography in his childhood he continued on to study the subject, receiving his Masters Degree in 1993. Having worked as a freelance photographer since 1983 he finally moved to Vienna where he founded his own studio and began to make plans to go international, opening an office in New York City in 2002.

In the mid 1990s he started work on a number of “multi-vision-projects” at various exhibitions in Vienna. The acclaimed Viennese “Gallery Minerva” represents him in his work since 1999. Also during this period he worked on numerous Videos shorts as both cameraman and director.

His direction in photographic topics has continued to expand while his travels around the world have influenced his work to include both the eclectic and the concentric as visionary impulses in otherwise mundane themes. This is evident in his culinary and food styling work.

“When photographing food one must be sure that the viewer will find adventure on the plate.”

While presently exploring the advantages of High End Digital Photography, he continues his enthusiasm to capture the world through the lens of his Sinar 8x10 inch.

In 2002 he began working with the Agency Anzenberger in Vienna, which represents him worldwide.

More recently has involved himself in a number of publishing projects– two cookbooks on styrian cuisine, a photographic history of the famed hospital Deutsch Ordenshaus and a report of refugee camps in Ex Yugoslavia. Calendar projects for the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Austria 2002 and 2003 have kept him moving in the fast lane as well as one centering on the work of the avant gard theatre group Theatre Merz, and a well known Chinese tea house Artee in Vienna.

In autumn 2003 the book “East of Paris” was published, which represents the work of famed 4star New York chef David Bouley. For several months Thomas worked and lived in NYC and finishing the work in 2003. In 2004/2005 he will continue his collaboration with masters of epicurean delight as he begins work on several book projects in USA with another well known New York 4star chef, Daniel Boulud, and in Virginia with Fabio Trabocchi (Restaurant Maestro/Ritz Carlton). In Austria with Martina Willmann at the “Zum schwarzen Kameel”.

While working as an official tester of new products of Fuji Film Corp. again in his favourite field of work he published colourful culinary finery as huge prints and displays at the NYC Photo Expo 2003 and in Las Vegas at the PMA Expo 2004.

A “Feng Shui” book “Healing rooms in Hospitals” is published worldwide by Springer.

The new  2005 Calendar (limited 8.888 pieces) for the Riedel Glas Company are published too.

His recent clients are ECCO Press / Harper Collins, Universal Records UK, Warner Music, BMG, K7 Records, Deutsche Postbank, Henkel, Levi Strauss, BBDO, Fuji Film-USA, Grand Marnier and some campaigns for well known Newspapers.
