Scott Barrow was born to a Naval Aviator who loved all things fast and loud and a beautiful woman who sang like a Broadway Star and had the talent and energy to have been the CEO of a major corporation.  When not assisting his father at going fast in a ‘62 Corvette or lighting the fuses of his M-80s so that they could “stress test” their mailbox, he hung out at night in their darkroom and discovered the magic of a print rising from the amber lit trays.   He was quickly hooked.

In 1972 he spent his last $ 100 on a used Canon FTb and 5 rolls of Kodachrome and has never stopped shooting.  After graduating from the University of Virginia with a fine art degree he had the good fortune to be taken under the wing of a freelance photographer who drove a sports car, lived in a cottage on the river and had a pretty girlfriend.  It was a lifestyle that he saw the merits of immediately and he combined it with the only thing he sensed could give a civilian the same heart pumping, skill intensive, life on the edge thrill as planting a jet on the rolling deck of an aircraft carrier. He became an advertising photographer on location.

During his career hundreds of assignments for advertising, travel, editorial and corporate clients have allowed him to explore the world.   Despite his reputation as an inspired location shooter he has often been asked, “So, where is your studio?”   His response is that his “studio” is wherever he happens to be at the moment.

He has lived, worked and lectured in Virginia, New York City, the Hudson Highlands and most recently the Berkshires of Massachusetts where he can easily access New York and Boston.  Editorial assignments are a new focus in his career as well as his growing fine art, and stock photography divisions.

Now, 30 years into this adventure, digital has replaced film and ink jets his darkroom, but the magic is still there as is the hypo.  Just a small bottle to open up once in a while and let the memories waft past the monitor.
