Considered the preeminent chronicler of youth culture in the photography world, Lauren Greenfield's documentary work has gained international exposure through her books, museum exhibitions, and magazine publications.

American Photo named Greenfield one of the 25 most influential photographers working today.   Her work is in many collections including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the International Center of Photography, the Center for Creative Photography, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Harvard University Archive, the Clinton Library, and the French Ministry of Culture.

Greenfield is the author of two photographic monographs, Girl Culture (Chronicle, 2002) and Fast Forward (Knopf, 1997).

Girl Culture , a book and traveling exhibition, has become the definitive photographic documentation on American girls in the 21 st century.   Now in its fourth edition, the book is a ground-breaking exploration of girls' relationships with their bodies and the popular culture.   The traveling show, originating at the Center for Creative Photography, has toured museums and galleries throughout North America, Europe and Russia where it has been seen by over 500,000 people.   The accompanying educational curriculum is used by university professors and high school teachers around the country (www.girlculture.com).

Her debut monograph, Fast Forward: Growing Up in the Shadow of Hollywood , became a best-selling photography book (Knopf, 1997), for which she received the Infinity Award from the International Center of Photography, and the Community Awareness Award from the National Press Photographers' competition.   Excerpts from the book appeared in over 50 major national and international publications and on Good Morning America, CNN, NPR, and the McNeill Lehrer Report.   Fast Forward was exhibited extensively in museums, galleries, and photography festivals, including the International Center of Photography (1997), the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, Arizona (1998), the Moscow Biennial (2000), and Visa Pour L'Image Festival in Perpignan, France.

Greenfield graduated from Harvard in 1987 and started her career as an intern for National Geographic.   Since then, her photographs have won numerous awards and been regularly published in magazines including the New York Times Magazine , Time , the New Yorker, Harper's, ELLE, Harper's Bazaar, American Photo, French Photo, Stern , the London Sunday Times Magazine. She is a member of the VII Photo Agency, an international photographic cooperative.

Fast Forward was the first photography monograph to be optioned for development as a feature film (Columbia Pictures).   Girl Culture followed suit and is now in development with Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment.

In 2004, Greenfield directed and produced her first film; a feature-length documentary for HBO entitled THIN .   The film is about the treatment of eating disorders and will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January, 2006.   She is currently working on a book of the same title.

She lives in Venice, California with her husband, Frank Evers, and her son.
